Revision as of 20:52, 20 October 2009

As of October 20, 2009 there are four main distributions of Vista:

  • WorldVista (GPL licensed) (Home)
    • Astronaut-Auto-Install
      • Pros: Easiest to install, standards-based, most all-in-one solution available. Some bugs such as IPv6 are fixed. Enables use, collaboration and development. Probably the best choice for newcomers, those not interested in installation details, and developers.
      • Cons: Could be more modular. Currently Beta but moving fast.
    • Semi-Viva with Download here
      • Pros: Architecture more conducive to ASP model.
      • Cons: Patches for clinical client support are lacking. Requires more expertise to install.
    • Manual Server Manual Client Manual Instructions
      • Pros: Perform and understand the raw basics of a VistA installation.
      • Cons: Time consuming, not based on a standard, missing drivers for many clients. Un-fixed problems such as IPv6 handling.
  • OpenVista (AGPL licensed) (Home) (Download)
  • vxVista (Eclipse Public License - EPL) (Home) (not downloadable)
  • FOIA Vista (unlicensed public domain software) (Home) (Download)
    • Pros: The straight un-modified stuff from Vererans Affairs.
    • Cons: Raw. Very raw. It will take you much, much time to get this into a form that is of any use.

(You may hear about da Vinci Vista, VOE Vista, and Hui Vista. These don't exist and/or are not maintained anymore.)
