System parameters and setup for auto-finishing (Based on the Hui procedure for autofinishing)

The functionality of the Autofinish Rx and prescription printing is controlled using site parameters and setting up an OUTPATIENT SITE specific for the clinic that the HOSPITAL LOCATION will point to.

An OUTPATIENT SITE must be defined for each clinic that is going to AutoFinish and print prescriptions, multiple HOSPITAL LOCATIONS can point to single OUTPATIENT SITE. The OUTPATIENT SITE needs to be defined as in the example below. It is from the OUTPATIENT SITE that the Header Info (The Clinic Name, Address, and Phone number) used in the printing of a prescription is retrieved from. If the Header Info needs to be different for any reason one must create a new OUTPATIENT SITE.

In the OUTPATIENT SITE file (#59) a field is added called AUTOFINISH RX (#459001) that needs to have the value of “YES” to allow for AutoFinishing of medication orders for that OUTPATIENT SITE. If prescriptions are not to be autofinished this field should be null. This field is evaluated in the routine PSOZHUIF if “YES” the medications orders will be autofinished, if null the medications will not be autofinished. This field can be edited through FileMan.

In the HOSPITAL LOCATION file (#44) two fields are added for the AutoFinishing functionality. The AUTOFINISH RX SITE field (#459001) points to the OUTPATIENT SITE file (#59). In the manual process of finishing of prescriptions a pharmacists must select an OUTPATIENT SITE to finish the prescriptions in. No way was determined to automatically select the appropriate OUTPATIENT SITE based on the parameters passed in the code, this field forces the code to use the correct OUTPATIENT SITE. Each HOSPITAL LOCATION that is going to Autofinish and print prescriptions must point to an OUTPATIENT SITE that is properly configured. This field can be edited through FileMan.

The AUTOFINISH CLINIC PRINTER field (#459002) in the HOSPITAL LOCATION file is a pointer to the DEVICE file (#3.5), you need to select the printer that the provider will use from this HOSPITAL LOCATION to print the prescriptions generated in the AutoFinish process. This field is optional, if it is null no prescription will be printed but the medication order will be finished. This is how you would AutoFinish a medication order without printing a prescription, if that functionality was desired for a HOSPITAL LOCATION. The OUTPATIENT SITE would need to have the AUTOFINISH RX field rset to “YES” for the medication order to autofinish. This field can be edited through FileMan.

An example of a HOSPITAL LOCATION is:
