: Damage to the spinal cord as a result of a traumatic incident. Trauma is a sudden external force which damages the spinal cord. This includes surgical trauma (i.e., which is both sudden and external) but excludes sudden damage to the vertebrae caused by disease (i.e., the disease process is not sudden). If both traumatic and non-traumatic causes are present, classify as traumatic.&lt;br /&gt;
